The Marrakech International Film Festival Pays Tribute to Filmmaker Robert Redford. The American Director, Producer, Actor, and an Ardent Defender of the Environment

Throughout his extraordinary career, Robert Redford has had a profound impact on contemporary cinema and has very quickly become one of its major figures.

A visionary entrepreneur, a great artist and an extraordinary creator, each of his initiatives has been successful as a director, producer, actor and founder of the Sundance Institute and the Sundance Festival, the world’s first independent film festival.

Robert Redford is an uncompromising advocate of creative expression, a politically committed man and an ardent defender of the environment and social responsibility.

Committed to the development of independent cinema, he dedicates a large part of his life and commitments to the Sundance Institute, which he founded in 1981, and whose objectives are to support and accompany emerging screenwriters and future directors, and to promote the new independent cinema at a national and international level.

Robert Redford is an environmental activist and advocate since the early 1970s. For nearly forty years, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Natural Resources Defense Council. In 2019, his commitment was honored at the 3rd Monte-Carlo Gala for the Global Ocean of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. In 2016, he had already received the presidential medal from US President Barack Obama in recognition of his achievements.
