Jack Lang on the Death of Abderrahmane El Youssoufi

President of the Arab World Institute, Jack Lang, described the late Abderrahmane Youssoufi as “a great statesman” and “an outstanding servant of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Moroccan people”, noting that he heard the news of the man’s death with ” tremendous grief”.

“I was deeply saddened by the news of Abderrahmane Youssoufi’s departure,” he said. He was a great statesman. He was also an excellent servant of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Moroccan people,” Lang said in a statement sent Saturday to MAP.

“I had the privilege of meeting this man for the first time in 1998 as Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly a few weeks after his rise to the post of Prime Minister at the head of a coalition government. As Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, I had received a letter from Prime Minister Lionel Jospin requesting me to go to Rabat and greet the new Prime Minister on behalf of France. This shared moment was especially moving,” said Lang.

” A new era was beginning to take shape with this coalition government under the leadership of King Hassan II. It was certainly the first stage in the more profound changes that King Mohammed VI later brought about, which fully opened Morocco to freedom and democracy,” continued the President of the IMA, who stressed that “King Mohammed VI often associated Abderrahmane Youssoufi with major events.

” Indeed, Abderrahmane Youssoufi was a man of international authority and deep respect for the Moroccan people. He stood out for his intellectual elegance, his sincere kindness, his passion for tolerance and openness,” said Lang, who, as President of the Arab World Institute, offered “his warmest condolences to Mr. Youssoufi’s wife and family and to the citizens of Morocco. »

As a reminder, the former Prime Minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, passed away during the night of Thursday to Friday in Casablanca, at the age of 96 years, as announced by his relatives.
