Resumption of Friday Prayer in Mosques

Mosques in a number of Arab and Islamic countries have reopened so that worshipers can perform Friday prayers, after an interruption of more than two months since the spread of the Coronavirus and the implementation of emergency health measures.

Indeed, Al-Aqsa Mosque received about 50,000 worshipers who came to perform Friday prayers for the first time since the mosque was closed due to the Coronavirus, according to the Ministry of Islamic Habous in Al-Quds. As for the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah, 100,000 worshipers performed the first Friday prayer since the mosques were closed. All Saudi mosques in all governorates have opened their doors after months of closure, with the exception of the mosques in Makkah Al-Mukarramah.

In Egypt, Al-Azhar held Friday prayers in the presence of a limited number of workers and Imams within the prestigious religious establishment, relying only on the transmission of the prayer on Egyptian television and the Internet, via the Al-Azhar Foundation website and social media. The Egyptian authorities have not yet announced the reopening of the mosques, warning citizens about the violation of the state of health emergency.

Morocco, however, has not yet opened the doors of its mosques. The ministry has still not set a date for the return to prayer in the Kingdom’s mosques, as is the case in a number of Arab and Muslim countries.

In addition, Israel has congratulated Muslims in various countries around the world for the return of Friday prayer, via its official “Twitter” page, with the following message: “We congratulate the Muslim community for the return of Friday prayer in mosques for the first time since the Coronavirus pandemic, including Al-Aqsa Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque, all mosques in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, as well as in other countries. “The message was concluded with a Quranic verse.
