The Reopening of Hammams: How to Respect the Physical Distance?

On Sunday 21 June, the competent authorities decided to reopen the hammams from next Thursday, 24 June.

However, in such places of relaxation and hygiene, how can physical distance be respected? The president of the National Federation of Unions of Owners and Managers of Traditional Hammams and Showers in Morocco answers this important question raised by the citizens of Morocco.

“The conditions imposed by the Moroccan authorities for the resumption of hammam activities recommend that only 50% of the usual capacity will be allowed,” said Fatima Fdaouchi. She added that the number of citizens who attend traditional hammams always has a significant decline during the summer season, compared to other seasons. Therefore, this observation will allow the managers to easily respect the authorized capacity.

Furthermore, the President of the above-mentioned Federation did not fail to point out that traditional hammams and public showers have all undergone a cleaning, disinfection and sterilization operation. They are therefore once again ready to receive their clients.

As for the question that remains unanswered concerning the measures taken to ensure that physical distance is respected, what is the situation with regard to that question? This is an important question and one that Fatima Fdaouchi has not mentioned. Although the number of clients is down in the summer, in theory, the number of hammam enthusiasts will surely be much higher than expected.

This is more likely to occur in the first few days given the fact that hammams have been closed for three months as a result of the state of health emergency!
