Eric Dupond-Moretti, lawyer of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has been appointed Minister of Justice in the new French government, led by Jean Castex.
Eric Dupond-Moretti is known for his outstanding legal competence, thanks to which he has managed to exonerate a large number of his clients. He represented HM King Mohammed VI in the blackmail case in which journalists Eric Laurent and Catherine Graciet were involved; a case that shook the French press and was considered a major media scandal, having caused considerable media coverage.
Eric Dupond-Moretti also represented the star Saad Lamjarred in the case of the alleged rape of Laura Bruel, before withdrawing from the defense, without specifying the reason. His Majesty King Mohammed VI also entrusted him with the announcement of a denial about the rumors that had circulated about the royal couple, demanding respect for His Majesty’s personal life.
Eric Dupond-Moretti is considered one of the most famous lawyers in France. He is nicknamed “the monster” as well as “the bravest man in France” , because he very rarely loses a case and often gets his clients discharged.
Eric Dupond-Moretti is of Italian origin on his mother’s side, who immigrated to France to work as a cleaning lady. He has often called for the reform of the French judicial system, whose patronage, corruption and influence peddling he has always criticized. His career is rich with more than 35 years as a lawyer, during which he has pleaded many cases related to terrorism, corruption and rape. He defends his clients fiercely, thanks in particular to his strong personality and the solidity of his arguments.
He refused to receive the Legion of Honor. In this regard, he wrote in his book Le dictionnaire de ma vie (2018): “Yes, I am a free man. I acknowledge my pride in being a lawyer, in having refused the Legion of Honour and Freemasonry, in saying what I want to say, in having political opinions without belonging to any party…”.
