Eid Al-Adha: More than 7.2 Million Head of Cattle Identified

The sheep and goat identification operation on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha 1441 (2020), launched on 22 April this year, has seen a strong involvement of farmers with more than 7.2 million heads identified, says the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests.

The distribution of sheep and goats shows that the region of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima has 122,400 head, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra 972,000 head, Casablanca-Settat (1,353,600), Marrakech-Safi (1,440,000), Souss-Massa (115). 200), Oriental (720,000), Fez-Meknes (921,600), Draa-Tafilalet (208,800), Beni Mellal-Khenifra (1,281,600), Guelmim-Oued Noun (36,000), Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra (26,000) and Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab (10,000), the ministry said in a statement.

On the economic level, Eid Al-Adha is an opportunity to improve the income of farmers for whom the breeding of small livestock is the main source of livelihood, especially at the level of large pastures. The ministry stresses that these financial resources help stimulate economic activities in the rural areas.

The average turnover at Eid al-Adha exceeds 12 billion Dirhams. Most of these funds are transferred to rural areas, enabling farmers to cover the expenses of other agricultural activities, especially those related to preparations for the next agricultural season.
