Dominique Strauss-Kahn: The Lover of Marrakech

Dominique Strauss-Kahn is considered one of the world’s most famous political figures and economic experts. He was president of the International Monetary Fund from 2007 to 2011 before being overthrown by a scandal of “sexual assault” on a New York hotel employee. The affair discredited his planned candidacy for the 2012 presidential election, when he was favoured to represent the Socialist Party in that election.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn belongs to a Jewish family of Moroccan origin. His mother, Jacqueline Floss, is a Jewish woman of Tunisian origin. She was a journalist. Her father was a legal and financial consultant. He was an active member of a well-known Masonic organization in France. Dominique Strauss-Kahn was born in 1949 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, a suburb of Paris. But he grew up in Casablanca, and spent an important part of his childhood travelling between Morocco and the Principality of Monaco.  

Strauss-Kahn graduated in business administration and obtained a degree in public law, followed by a doctorate in economics. He also studied at the École des hautes études commerciales de Paris and the Institut d’études politiques de Paris.

He served as deputy commissioner at the Economic Planning Agency in the 1980s and was later elected as a member of the French Parliament and mayor of Sarcelles in the Paris suburbs. He also held several ministerial portfolios during his political career.

Outside of politics, Strauss-Kahn was active as a businessman. He also had a law firm where he was active as a business lawyer. His name was also associated with many financial and sex scandals, including the scandal of sexual assault on the New York hotel maid; a case that ended his ambition to become president of the French Republic in 2012, forced him to resign as president of the International Monetary Fund and broke up his relationship with the famous French journalist Anne Sinclair.

Strauss-Kahn enjoys visiting Morocco on a regular basis. He owns a sumptuous riad in Marrakech where he usually comes to rest.
