Marrakech: Reinforced Measures in 7 Areas of the City

The local authorities of the ochre city have taken several measures following the latest developments in the epidemiological situation in the prefecture of Marrakech.

In a statement, the wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region indicates that these measures are of a general nature covering the entire territorial jurisdiction of the prefecture and others are specific relating to certain urban areas.

Concerning the general measures covering the entire territorial jurisdiction of the prefecture, intensive awareness-raising operations have been launched with the participation of several services and actors from the private sector, civil society and the local media. The aim is to raise awareness of the danger of slackening in respect of preventive measures and its negative repercussions, in particular hygiene, the compulsory and correct wearing of protective masks, social distancing, avoidance of travel except in cases of extreme necessity, and an end to certain negative phenomena such as gathering at street entrances.

The same source emphasizes that these general measures also include intensifying disinfection and sterilization operations, intensifying control of movement at the entrances to the city and between neighborhoods, and taking firm legal action against offenders, setting closing times for markets and souikates at 5 p.m., respect for the extreme limit of 50% of the reception capacity, closure of cafés and restaurants that do not respect preventive measures and the total closure of gardens, green spaces and the prohibition of gatherings in public areas and in front of bank and other branches.

With regard to the specific measures for 7 urban areas, and on the basis of objective data and statistics on the epidemiological situation, it was decided to establish 7 urban areas which, in addition to the general measures already mentioned, require specific measures to be taken.

These are the areas of Sidi Youssef Ben Ali, Hay Hassani, Hay Mohammadi, M’hamid, Menara, Jemaa Fna and Kechich.

The measures relating to these zones concern the intensification of control operations, the partial or total closure of certain neighbourhoods to stop the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) while limiting travel except in cases of extreme necessity (work, health reasons or shopping).

It also involves setting the closing time for cafés and restaurants at 10 p.m. and stepping up control operations of industrial and professional units to ensure that they comply with the preventive measures in force.

The services of the wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region urge the inhabitants of this prefecture to strictly respect these measures with citizenship and responsibility.
