Abu Dhabi welcomes the world for second Return to Fight Island event

Fighters from six continents  gear up for action at UFC® FIGHT NIGHT: HOLM VS ALDANA ON Yas Island on Sunday, October 4

Abu Dhabi provides the platform for the entire UFC® world to showcase its talents at UFC® FIGHT NIGHT: HOLM VS ALDANA, the second event of the much-heralded mega Return to Fight Island series taking place on Yas Island.

Taking place early on Sunday morning (UAE time), the fight night features athletes from all six of the world’s inhabited continents. Fighters will be representing a diverse range of countries including  the US, Brazil, Mexico, Cape Verde, the Netherlands, Russia, Australia, UK, Canada, Tunisia, Thailand, China, Serbia, Italian and Tunisia.

The stacked 11-fight card is a truly global affair and one the fighters are relishing being part of.

“I take a lot of pride in  being here and being part of this. I just want to make the most of it and not let it pass me by,” said American Holly Holm who takes on Mexico’s Irene Aldana in the women’s bantamweight main event bout.

Aldana echoed her opponent’s sentiments, adding: “I’m prouder than ever and to represent my flag and my country and to represent in the biggest form of MMA. This is a great experience.”

Josh Culibao, from Australia, faces Canadian Charles Jourdain in a featherweight clash at Flash Forum is relishing the opportunity of being part of Return to Fight Island .

“It’s a great experience, a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I’m grateful to be part of it. It is a crazy thing. The way they have set this up. Making something out of nothing,” he said.

Montenegro’s Dusko Todorovic, who faces American Dequan Townsend in the first event on the main card, added: “It feels great to be part of this. I have been training for over a year for a fight, but now it is here and feel great to be part of it. Abu Dhabi is great; it is warm so it’s easy to cut weight. Everything is so glamorous and fits well with what UFC is trying to do.

Yorgan de Castro, who represents Cape Verde against Brazil’s Carlos Felipe in a heavyweight bout, the second fight on the main card, added: “I love everything about Fight Island. I feel safe and welcome and I love this place. Everything is well organised and I feel great.”
