High-Tech Israel: Google awards a grant to Tel Aviv University, TAU

Google.org, a Google fund to support data-based solutions, has awarded a competitive grant to Tel Aviv University for high-impact research using data science and artificial intelligence (AI) to combat COVID-19.

Google is promoting its “AI for Social Good” research programme – led, among others, by Professor Yossi Matias, Google’s Vice President and CEO of the Google Israel Research and Development Centre.

The grant is awarded to the TAU Artificial Intelligence and Data Research Centre for research using AI techniques and advanced statistical methods to improve COVID-19 public health measures.

Using data from the ministries and the Central Bureau of Statistics, the researchers intend to build an accurate, high-resolution model of the spread of the pandemic and then use it to plan and test various methods to stop the infection.
