NYU Abu Dhabi to stream live classical music by internationally acclaimed pianist Ioannis Potamousis

Abu Dhabi, UAE – October 21, 2020: Internationally acclaimed pianist Ioannis Potamousis will perform a selection of classical music by Claude Debussy and Franz Liszt in a live virtual performance. Presented as part of the 2020 – 2021 recital series of The Music Program at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) in collaboration with The Arts Center at NYUAD, the free public performance will be livestreamed on The Arts Center’s Facebook Page and website on Monday, October 26 at 7:30pm.

A world class performer, Potamousis, who is also an Adjunct Instructor of Music at NYUAD, has played in venues in Europe, the Middle East, and across North America. Famous for his captivating artistry and introspective poetic expression, Potamousis will inaugurate the University’s newest instrument, a Steinway & Sons concert grand piano, for the performance.

Instructor of Music and Producer at NYUAD Thaddeus Stegall commented: “We are incredibly excited to open our 2020-2021 season with Petite and Grande. This piano recital highlights important works to the piano repertoire performed passionately by a talented member of the faculty, Ioannis Potamousis. A recital by Potamousis will teach you something new and inspire you to, in the words of John Sexton, play another octave on the piano.”

Titled Petite and Grande, the recital will focus on two milestones from the impressionist and romantic musical era: Debussy’s 12 Preludes and Liszt’s Après une lecture du Dante. The performance will take audiences through the color and symbolism of French impressionism through to the exuberance and passion of early-era romanticism.

The piano recital comes as part of The Music Program’s ongoing programming, aiming to unite students and audiences with special musical performances from across the region and the world.

Petite and Grande is open to the public. Audiences are still encouraged to confirm their attendance on the Facebook event. For further information, please visit The Arts Center at NYUAD’s website.
