Fact-checking. Is Morocco threatened by a tsunami?

For the past few days, several rumors have been circulating on Facebook pages according to which the Moroccan coasts will soon be hit by a tsunami after the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, on the island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands.

In this regard, Nacer Jebour told the Moroccan press that this information is totally false, indicating that these rumors have been circulating since the eruption of this volcano.

The president of the National Institute of Geophysics assured that the impact of the volcano is not strong and that Morocco has only been affected by light emissions in the air. “Morocco will not be hit by a tsunami, according to the data we currently have. The impact of the volcano is only local,” he reassured.

Jebbor said, moreover, that Morocco is closely following the evolution of the volcano, like all countries in the world.
