In an interview with the French daily Le Figaro, Nicolas Henin said that demand for flights to Morocco has risen sharply since the country’s air borders reopened on 7 February. “This phenomenon has been going on throughout the year, in January there were between 400 and 500 daily bookings to Morocco. Since the announcement, we are counting between 4000 and 5000. By this summer, we will have 40% more seats than in 2019, which is our pre-pandemic reference year,” he says.
The director also announces the programming of two new destinations for April: Oujda and Fez, from Nantes Atlantique airport. As for ticket prices, the commercial director indicated that “prices are globally at a similar level to those of a traditional year. They have not exploded, particularly in March, April and May”, while specifying that “over the next two weeks, prices are a little high, but beyond that, they become reasonable. Between the school holidays and until this summer, we are back to the usual price level”.
In a confident tone, the commercial director of the low-cost subsidiary of Air France announced that “the demand for travel to Morocco will accelerate”, justifying that “we also observe that each time the country reopens, the bookings start again very quickly. The demand could not be fully expressed. Last year, Morocco reopened at the end of June and we had good sales from July to August. But then sales were blocked for many months.
Finally, Nicolas Henin affirmed that “for the moment, the indicators are green. We were reassured on the spot by the Moroccan tourist office: all the local activities and infrastructures have been supported by domestic tourism. We feel that Morocco is doing everything possible to make this a full tourist season.
