The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, and Pekka Hyvönen, Finland’s Ambassador to Morocco, acting on behalf of the country’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Employment, Mika Lintilä. The aim of the Memorandum of Understanding is to strengthen cooperation in the use of renewable energy, and to identify opportunities in the fields of energy efficiency, energy technologies, the hydrogen economy and cooperation in research and development.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed in a virtual session, “creates a good basis for the development of the bilateral partnership, and is an important tool for strengthening networks between companies, universities and research organisations, as well as for building trade and investment links between our countries”, says Mika Lintilä.
“Investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy systems are essential for a prosperous society. In Finland, we have developed great know-how in these areas, and it is with great pleasure that we welcome this cooperation with Morocco in practice,” he added.
The two parties thus aim to develop technical and economic cooperation in this field, as well as to promote the access of Finnish companies to the Moroccan market.
“Finland has developed strong expertise in these areas and we are happy to start practical cooperation with Morocco,” said Lintilä.
For the record, Morocco has set itself the goal of achieving more than 52% of its installed electricity capacity from renewable sources by 2030.
