After months of tension in Moroccan-Tunisian relations, the two countries have relaunched the high-level dialogue. On the occasion of the holding of the first international summit on the oceans “One Ocean Summit”, the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch met with his Tunisian counterpart, Najla Bouden, on the sidelines of this international event held in Brest, France.
This meeting comes at a sensitive time in relations between Rabat and Tunis where doubt hangs over the Tunisian position on the Sahara issue. The country of President Kaïs Saïed abstained from voting on Security Council resolution 2602 alongside Russia, which was perceived by Moroccan observers as support for Algeria, especially since these two countries have shown an ostensible rapprochement in recent months.
During their talks, Aziz Akhannouch and Najla Bouden discussed the prospects for the holding of the Moroccan-Tunisian High Joint Commission, according to a statement from MAP. Tunisian media reported that the Tunisian Head of Government stressed the importance of increasing meetings between officials of both countries and boosting cooperation mechanisms.
This kind of initiative is intended to revive cooperation in areas of common interest and give new life to bilateral relations.
Recall that the Head of Government represented Morocco at the “One Ocean Summit”, he led a high-level delegation including the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki and the Ambassador of the Kingdom in Paris, Mohamed Benchaaboun.
