Moroccan government and wheat

“In the first 4 months of the current year, the subsidy allocated to soft wheat totaled 3 billion dirhams and this, under an agreement concluded by the government with mills and bakeries, setting the price of this raw material to 270 dirhams per quintal, “said Baitas at a press briefing after the weekly meeting of the Governing Council.
The minister said in this context, given the remarkable rise in prices of this substance on international markets, the government now supports more than 100 dirhams per quintal, against 83 dirhams in early January, after the price of the quintal has exceeded 500 dirhams.
Regarding the rise in prices of the rest of the commodities, Baitas said that a distinction should be made between the local product whose price is always stable and imported products, which are subject, he said, to fluctuations in the international market.
According to him, the measures taken by the government in limiting exports, control in the wholesale outlets and dialogue with professionals, have reduced the prices of a set of basic necessities, including vegetables, whose prices are currently stable and even tend to decrease.
On the other hand, he added, imported products are generally subject to fluctuations in the international market, noting, in this regard, that the government is committed to closely monitor developments in prices of these products.
