The judicial system & private schools in Morocco

The Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, said that the current legal framework regulating private school education is Law No. 06.00, which does not give the Ministry of Education any possibility to intervene to determine the fees and taxes applicable to private schools. These institutions are subject to competition law.

Speaking at the oral question session in the House of Representatives, today Monday, Benmoussa stressed that private education must respect the principle of transparency at the financial level in relations between institutions and families of students.

The Minister added that in order to prevent students from studying due to strikes, several educational support devices have been put in place throughout the school year.

The government official added that the ministry has diversified its support programs and mobilized partners such as parents’ associations, the Regional Committees of the National Initiative for Human Development and civil society associations interested in educational affairs.

What does the law say?
In accordance with the provisions of law n° 06-00 on the status of private school education, private educational institutions are subject to pedagogical and administrative control by the Regional Academy of Education and Training. They have the obligation to respect the standards of equipment, supervision, programs and methods established in public education. The status of private educational
institutions depends on their relationship with the state, but they are all under its control in matters related to laws, finances and statistics.
