Putin withdraws Russian ambassador from Morocco to Algeria and appoints new ambassador to Rabat

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Valerian Shuvaev as ambassador to Algeria, after having served for years as Russian ambassador to Morocco.

Instead of Shuvaev, President Putin appointed diplomat Vladimir Baibakov as Russia’s ambassador to Morocco.

Decree No. 321 of the Russian presidency dated May 27, 2022 mentions the appointment of Ambassador Valerian Shuvaeva as Ambassador Extraordinary of Russia to Algeria, after he was removed from his post as Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco.

The bulletin also included another decree dated May 27, 2022, No. 320, according to which Vladimir Baibakov was appointed Russian ambassador to replace Shuvaev in the Kingdom of Morocco.

The new Russian ambassador to Morocco, Vladimir Baibakov (64), is a graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, has held various positions in the diplomatic corps and worked as a senior advisor at the Russian Embassy in the United States, as head of department and deputy director of the Middle East and North Africa department.
