Essaouira: The Regraga brotherhood at the time of its annual moussem

The ceremony marking the official launch of the annual moussem of the Regraga brotherhood, a long journey of about forty days and an event at once religious, cultural and socio-economic, was held Friday at the Zaouia of Sidi Mhamed Ben Hmida (about 60 km from Essaouira).

Thus, the chorfas and followers of the brotherhood of Regraga began this “circular pilgrimage” (Daour) to the shrines of the seven saints presented as the ancestors of Regraga, an age-old tradition that this brotherhood ensures to perpetuate, and which takes place in 44 stages (44 days) in the territory of the Chiadma area.

This ceremony, which took place in the presence of Governor Adil El Maliki, heads of external services, elected officials, authorities and other personalities, was punctuated by panegyrics to the glory of the Prophet Sidna Mohammed (pbuh), readings of verses from the Holy Quran and interventions highlighting the authentic heritage that represents this annual journey, all in an atmosphere of piety and contemplation.

In a statement, the Moqadem of the Zaouia Regraga, Abdelaziz El Moqqadem, highlighted the secular aspect of the moussem of this brotherhood, which is distinguished particularly by its long duration and its distribution in space since it takes place in forty stages and days.

This edition is also marked by the presence of guests from different regions of Morocco and abroad, he said, citing in particular delegations from the Tarika Mouridiya of Senegal, some Zaouias of Mauritania and the Tarika nakchabandiya in China, in addition to a delegation of notables from the city of Tarfaya and actors from various backgrounds.

At the end of this ceremony, the members of the official delegation as well as the chorfas and followers of this brotherhood have performed the Friday prayer at the mosque of the Zaouia of Mhamed Ben Hmida. On this occasion, the faithful implored the Most High to preserve His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Amir Al Mouminine, to grant long life to the Sovereign, to guide His steps and to crown with success His tireless actions in the service of the development and progress of the Kingdom, and to fill Him in the persons of HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, HRH Prince Moulay Rachid and all members of the illustrious Royal Family. Prayers were also raised for the repose of the souls of the late HM Mohammed V and the late HM Hassan II.

Thereafter, the governor and the accompanying delegation went to the shrine of Sidi Ali Ben Bouali, where they attended the ritual of immolation of cattle.
