Ouarzazate: the 11th National Festival of the Arts of Ahwach, May 12 to 14

This edition is organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, in partnership with the prefecture of the province of Ouarzazate, the Council of the region of Drâa-Tafilalet, as well as the Provincial Council and the Local Council of Ouarzazate.     
With the theme “For the preservation and enhancement of intangible heritage of the arts of Ahwach”, this festival is an opportunity for more than 25 folk troupes of the arts of Ahwach, bringing together more than 1000 artists, to present performances highlighting the richness and diversity of this artistic and cultural heritage, said a statement from the Ministry.     
Folk troupes Ahwach known and others grouping young artists will animate the evenings of this festival, the aim being to encourage younger generations to practice this art and master its rules, adds the same source.     
A rich and varied program has been established for this artistic event, providing a carnival, exhibitions, workshops and musical evenings, as well as tributes to several figures of the arts of Ahwach, in recognition of their dedication to the preservation of this heritage.     
A conference under the theme “Safeguarding and development of intangible heritage of the arts of Ahwach: challenges and prospects” is planned in the same framework with the participation of researchers and experts.     
The Ministry stresses that the organization of this festival is motivated by the great importance of the arts of Ahwach, as well as the need to preserve them and give the necessary attention to artists of this intangible cultural heritage. 

   Emphasis is placed, moreover, on training and awareness to ensure the sustainability of the arts of Ahwach and their transmission to future generations, as well as investment in this intangible heritage and openness to other cultures, as part of the promotion of values of tolerance, peace and coexistence.
