A budget of around 22 million dirhams (MDH) has been allocated to implement the Oued Laou commune rehabilitation program for the period 2023-2025.
The commune’s urban rehabilitation program is the subject of a tripartite partnership agreement currently being approved between the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima regional council, the province of Tetouan and the commune, for the period 2023-2025.
The main aim of the program is to meet the challenge of making the commune more competitive and an attractive tourist hub for the region, as well as reducing traffic congestion on the city’s main arteries, especially during the summer months.
The program, which will be financed by the Regional Council (20 MDH) and the Oued Laou commune (2 MDH), focuses mainly on the development of the town’s entrances, as well as the widening and development of Avenue Mohammed V.
The works include reinforcement and widening of the town entrance, development of the sidewalk overhanging the seafront, construction of a stone protection wall, reinforcement of public lighting, horizontal signage and installation of urban equipment.
On Avenue Mohammed V, it has been decided to widen the street into two 20-meter-wide lanes, renovate the facades and improve the street lighting, in addition to work on afforestation and road signage.
The program will be implemented by the Regional Project Execution Agency (AREP), part of the Regional Council.
In this respect, it has been decided to set up a monitoring committee, chaired by the governor of the province of Tétouan and made up of representatives of the contracting parties or any other person whose presence is necessary for the implementation of the program, which will be responsible for supervising the implementation of the projects within the set deadlines.
