On Tuesday, the Meknes judicial police arrested two individuals, aged 67 and 17, for their alleged involvement in the possession and sale of health-damaging alcoholic products, the consumption of which led to the deaths of seven people.

The Meknes police had opened a judicial investigation following the death of seven individuals and the poisoning of an eighth, after consuming an alcoholic product they had allegedly bought in a grocery store, according to a security source.

Searches and investigations in this case led to the arrest of the suspect and his under-age assistant, suspected of having participated in the marketing of these products, the same source said, noting that the searches led to the seizure of a dozen empty plastic bottles containing the disinfectant alcohol that had led to the deaths of the victims.

The accused adult was placed in police custody, while the minor was placed under surveillance, at the disposal of the judicial investigation carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to elucidate the ins and outs of this case and establish the link between the deaths recorded and the products consumed, which are currently undergoing scientific expertise, concludes the same source.
