2-year prison sentence for con man

Two years’ imprisonment was the verdict recently handed down by the Criminal Division of the Casablanca Court of First Instance against a father in his forties, who had already served a year’s imprisonment for the same offence. The accused received sums ranging from 5 to 30 thousand dirhams from people to whom he promised to make their dream of going to El Dorado come true, or to employ them in companies. He obviously didn’t keep his word, and even turned off his phone. Eventually, his victims filed a complaint against him. In court, he denied the charges against him, claiming that it was only a misunderstanding between him and some of the complainants who had lent him money, and in no way a swindle.
