Al Haouz earthquake: 1,305 dead and 1,832 injured, 1,220 seriously

The earthquake that struck several of the Kingdom’s provinces and prefectures on Friday evening left 1,305 people dead and 1,832 injured, 1,220 of them seriously, according to a provisional balance sheet issued by the Ministry of the Interior at 7:00 pm on Saturday.

The tremor killed 694 people in the province of Al Haouz, 347 in the province of Taroudant, 191 in the province of Chichaoua, 39 in the province of Ouarzazate and 14 in the prefecture of Marrakech, the ministry said in a statement.

No new deaths have been recorded in the provinces and prefectures of Azilal, Agadir Ida Outanane, Grand Casablanca, Youssoufia and Tinghir, adds the same source.

In compliance with the High Royal Instructions, the public authorities are continuing their efforts to speed up rescue operations, evacuate and care for the injured, and mobilize all the resources needed to respond to the repercussions of this painful tragedy.
