The 12th edition of the Maghreb Film Festival opened in Oujda on Saturday evening, with five feature films and twelve shorts competing in the official competition.
At the opening ceremony, held at the Théâtre Mohammed VI in the presence of Wali Mouaad Jamai, local elected officials and leaders, tribute was paid to Spain, the guest of honor at this year’s festival, as well as to eminent personalities and artistic figures, including Moroccan actor Ismail Abu Al Qanater, Egyptian actress Shery Adel, Libyan director Osama Razek, Moroccan producer and director Mohamed Bouzkou, and Tunisian actress Wahida Dridi. Under the motto “Cinema: for living together between peoples”, this event, initiated by the Cinémaghreb association under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, put Moroccan and foreign filmmakers and artists in the spotlight as members of the jury for both competitions.
The jury for the feature-film competition, chaired by Moroccan director and producer Mohamed Abderrahmane Tazi, includes Tunisian editor Kahina Attia, Mauritanian producer and director Mohamed Chiguer, Italian actress and musician Ombretta Macchi and Algerian director Karim Tardia.
Moroccan producer-director Jamal Souissi will chair the short film jury, where he will be joined by Kazakh producer Andrei Rafael Ivanov and Mauritanian director Djibril Diop.
The program for this event, which runs until October 25, includes round tables, colloquia, master classes and workshops, as well as screenings of other out-of-competition films.
