Regulation of Social Networks: The Challenge of TikTok

TikTok has sparked unprecedented controversy in Morocco, primarily among the youth. The Chinese platform is often criticized for hosting obscene content, which many internet users find immoral and indecent. In response to calls from Members of Parliament to ban or regulate TikTok, Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi has declared himself powerless, noting that the state cannot ban global internet giants. Instead, he emphasized that penal measures are the only way to address internet crimes. The debate on tackling indecent and immoral content continues, with advocates for stricter regulations hoping for future reforms in the Penal Code to impose order on social networks.
