Moroccan Mayor of a Dutch City Defends Ihattaren

By choosing to defend the colors of the Netherlands instead of Morocco, Mohamed Ihattaren ended the debate about his sporting nationality. This decision has angered some Moroccans.

A few days ago, PSV Eindhoven’s young midfielder was insulted by a group of Moroccans at Eindhoven airport, who used terms such as “traitor” or “Jew”.

In response, the Arnhem Mayor Ahmed Marcouch, also from Morocco, defended the young player. On twitter, the 50-year-old man called the group of individuals “jealous losers”.

“Jealous losers. Stay away from Mohamed Ihattaren who wants to continue in the world of Dutch football, in which he grew up. It’s really stupid to think of him as a traitor,” he wrote.
