Two Moroccans Are Nominated for the “Maghreb Player of the Year” Award

France Football unveils this weekend the names of the 10 nominees for the “Maghreb Player of the Year” award. In the first half, two Moroccans are named.

After the Ballon d’Or trophies, France Football will present its traditional “Maghreb Player of the Year” award. The French media has already revealed the names of the first 5 nominees and among them are two Moroccans: Achraf Hakimi and Yunis Abdelhamid.

Achraf Hakimi is the German vice-champion and winner of the local Supercup, he shines with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Yunis Abdelhamid, considered one of the top three central defenders in France Ligue1, has played in all of Stade de Reims’ matches in Ligue1 this season, setting a record.

Alongside them are three Algerian African champions: Ismael Bennacer, Ramy Bensebaini and Riyad Mahrez. The latter is the big favorite to succeed Anice Badri (Esperance de Tunis, Tunisia), who won 4 titles with Manchester City: Premier League, League Cup, Community Shield and FA Cup.

The names of the other five nominees will be announced tomorrow Sunday.
