Mohsen Metwally: The Maestro

Mohsen Metwally is an exceptional football player. His love of the game has been running through his veins since he was a young boy. As a result, he has had no difficulty winning many titles and accolades. And despite his advanced age, the Raja player is still able to amaze his fans with his exceptional performance, his unique techniques and his physical condition, which still has nothing to envy to those of players much younger than him. The last match he played with Raja against Mouloudia Club d’Alger in the quarter-final of the Mohamed VI Cup for Champion Clubs is clear proof of this.

Mohsen Metwally was born in Casablanca on March 3, 1986. His debut was with Wydad de Casablanca, but he was unable to proof himself there and left for Raja. He joined the club’s training center and played for its junior team before signing his first official match in 2007, after showing exceptional talent. He joined the Olympic team a year later, before playing with the senior team in 2012, after his coach, Rachid Taoussi, believed in his talent.

Mohsen Metwally has won the national championship three times with Raja, in 2009, 2011 and 2013. He also won the Throne Cup with the same team in 2012. During the 2013-2014 season, he became captain of Raja and accompanied the rest of the players for the “Mondialito”, before being tempted by the Gulf leagues and playing for many Qatari clubs such as Al-Wakra and Al-Ahly, only to return to his favorite club afterwards.

Raja’s fans love Mohsen Metwally. He is practically the most popular player for the public, as he has rarely disappointed them and has often brought them joy. That is why he has been nicknamed ‘the maestro’ or ‘the cat’, just as he has been compared to international legend Maradona.

Mohsen Metwally’s playing position is in the center, but he is also capable of defending intelligently. He has a definite individual performance, but he knows how to give up his selfishness as a player when the time comes. He passes the ball to his team-mates at the right time and his passes are often decisive. He has a strong presence in matches, thanks in particular to his techniques, his incredible ability to dribble and dodge players, and he has great leading skills.
