Mawazine, Timitar, Fez Festival: Multiple Cancellations Due to the Coronavirus

The Foundation “Esprit de Fez” announced the cancellation of the 26th edition of the Fez Festival of World Sacred Music to be held from June 12 to 20, 2020. “Given the situation related to the consequences of the Coronavirus and in accordance with the recommendations of the competent authorities, the “Esprit de Fez” Foundation informs the public that the 26th edition of the Fez Festival of World Sacred Music is canceled,” said a statement of the Foundation received Sunday by MAP.

As part of the preventive measures taken by the government to fight against the spread of the Covid-19, the National Museum Foundation (FNM) announces the closure, as of Monday, of all museums in the Kingdom under its supervision, until further notice. The exhibitions “Enchanted Illusions, great figures of African modernity”, “Delacroix, memories of a trip to Morocco” and “Introduction to the topic” retrospective of Fouad Bellamine, planned at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, are postponed to a later date, says the FNM in a statement received Sunday by MAP.

The Timitar Association announced Sunday the cancellation of the 17th edition of the Timitar Festival of Agadir, scheduled from 3 to 6 July 2020. In a press release, the Association said that this decision comes within the framework of security measures, relating to the new Coronavirus (COVID-19), which recommend the restriction of gatherings and major events, in order to preserve the safety of citizens.

As part of the fight against the risk of spreading the new Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Association “Maroc Cultures” announces the cancellation of the 19th edition of the Mawazine Rhythms of the World Festival which was to take place in Rabat from 19 to 27 June 2020.

In a press release issued on Sunday, the Association specifies that this decision was taken in accordance with the preventive security measures recommended by the Moroccan authorities and the World Health Organization (WHO) which recommend the restriction of major events.

The priority of the Association is given, above all, to the health of our citizens and their safety, the same source added.
