Jewish Artist: Manuel Cohen the Poet of the Ruins

Over a period of three years Manuel Cohen photographed the streets of Tortosa (Catalonia). The city is now forgotten and the buildings are falling in ruins. Local politicians don’t care. The photographer walked through the place and then proposed overlays of two views in order to create a kind of survival through poetry of the ruins.

It is for the creator a way of expressing absence. Not only of beings but of what was and is abandoned. The artist seeks to make us perceive the life that animated places where only traces and a void remain. A way to go back in time, to remember it again so that the future is built on more solid foundations and values.
