Morocco: Khalid Ait Taleb Announces a New Measure While Waiting for a Vaccine for Covid-19

Moroccan hospitals will be supplied with flu and pneumococcal vaccines during the coming fall. The Minister of Health Khalid Ait Taleb announced on Saturday.

During the search for a safe and effective vaccine against Covid-19, the Ministry of Health has decided to conduct a vaccination campaign against seasonal flu and pneumococcal infections. The campaign will benefit people suffering from chronic diseases so as to strengthen their immunity, said Aid Taleb during a webinar organized under the theme “Covid-19, Influenza, HPV and pneumococcus: importance of vaccination, what are the recommendations?”.

The Minister stressed the serious nature of seasonal influenza for vulnerable populations, including the elderly, pregnant women, infants and those with serious illnesses. At the same time, he noted that the seasonal influenza vaccine is not effective against Covid-19.

Nevertheless, he noted that this is a precautionary strategy that will be implemented in addition to the existing preventive measures.

In addition, Khalid Ait Taleb said that each year between 250,000 and 650,000 people die from seasonal flu around the world, with 3 million to 5 million people affected worldwide.

This public webinar was initiated by the Moroccan Society of Medical Sciences in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, and in partnership with the Association of Free Practice Pediatricians of the wilaya of Rabat, the Casablanca Association of Private Pediatricians, the Moroccan Society of Pediatrics, the Moroccan Society of Pediatric Infectiology and Vaccinology. It was an opportunity to discuss various topics related to vaccination in this exceptional period that the Kingdom is going through as everywhere in the world.

National and international experts discussed various current topics related to the epidemiological situation in Morocco and the world, vaccination against covid-19, and influenza vaccinations.
