Leaders of Major Political Parties React to the Throne Speech

Leaders of political parties described the measures set out by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in his Throne Speech as “revolutionary”. When questioned by Le360, leaders of political parties called for “the commitment of all, including all political parties,” in order to succeed in the post-pandemic phase.

These leaders also described the speech of His Majesty as “historic”, given the fact that it sets out a roadmap which includes the creation of a fund of 120 billion Dirhams, i.e. 11% of the GDP, to boost economic productivity.

According to several of these leaders, this is “a first of its kind in a developing country that is committed to the success in the post-Covid-19 era”.

The National Rally of Independents (RNI, majority), chaired by Aziz Akhannouch, described the royal speech as an “ambitious and optimistic vision”.

In the section of the revival of the national economy, the RNI mentions the Investment Fund of 120 billion Dirhams.

“In reaction to the royal directives, and aware of the difficult situation, the RNI calls on all components of society to join forces in order to achieve the optimal implementation of the content and fundaments of the royal speech”.

For the Justice and Development Party (PJD, majority), the sovereign’s speech is “exceptional”.

” The king has always delivered appropriate and exceptional decisions in his throne speeches,” said Slimane El Amrani.

“Our party has adopted a series of measures, including the creation of the Investment Fund of 120 billion Dirhams and the launch of the system of gradual generalization of socio-medical coverage from January 2021,” said Slimane El Amrani.

The Authenticity and Modernity Party (WFP, opposition) shared the same view.

“What we find revolutionary in the WFP is the inclusiveness of health care. This great social project of medical and social coverage will help to rebalance social disparities,” said Mehdi Bensaïd, one of the party’s leaders.

According to him, “the king has given the political class a chance to become part of Morocco’s history. It takes good will to succeed in this revolutionary project.

The Party for Progress and Socialism (PPS, opposition), for its part, welcomed the content of the royal speech, highlighting the Investment Fund and the expanded socio-medical coverage.

According to Jamal Benchekroun, deputy of this party in the House of Representatives, “the measures announced will enable Morocco to take a new step in its development.

“The health of the people, as the king said, is above all consideration”.
