Coronavirus: Casablanca garbage collectors call for help

Faced with the resurgence of cases of Coronavirus contamination in the Casablanca-Settat region, the garbage collectors have stepped up to the plate to ask for protection against this virus.

According to the electronic newspaper “Al Yaoum24”, the employees of the two Casablanca cleaning and rubbish collection companies, affiliated to the Moroccan Labour Union (UMT), have called for an increase in protective means, masks, sterilisation products and other work equipment, to protect their health and preserve them from Coronavirus contamination.

The employees of Derichbourg and Averda, who provide cleaning services in Casablanca, are also claiming occupational risk premiums and want to be screened, because of the nature of their work and the dangers to which they are exposed in the performance of their duties.

Casablanca has for some time recorded worrying figures of new cases of contamination and accounts for nearly half of the national balance sheet (670 out of 2044 recorded on Sunday).
