Nearly 870,000 Moroccans living in Spain

More than 267,000 Moroccans were registered for social security in Spain at the end of last September, according to data from the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, published on Thursday.

Moroccans remain at the top of the list of non-EU foreign workers paying social security contributions in Spain with 267,031 people, followed by the Chinese (104,557).

The total number of foreigners affiliated to the Spanish social security system reached 2,240,775 in the ninth month of the current year, an increase of 20,678 persons compared to August 2021.

Of the total number of foreign workers contributing to the Spanish social security system, some 1,450,424 are from outside the European Union and 790,351 are from European Union countries.

On the other hand, some 869,661 Moroccans were legally established in Spain until 1 January 2021, up 0.4% (+3,716 people) compared to 1 January 2020, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Moroccans have thus maintained their position as the first foreign community legally settled in the Iberian country.
