Electricity: Production and consumption are progressing timidly

This development includes an increase in the production of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) of 26% (after +10.1%) and that of renewable energy related to Law 13-09 of 20.4% (after -4.6%), said the DEPF in its recent note of conjuncture.

This growth is, however, mitigated by the decline in private production of 3.6% (after +4.9%), said the same source.

Regarding the sector’s trade with the outside, the volume of imported energy increased by 108.1% at the end of April, after a decline of 33.4% a year earlier. As for the exported volume, it has almost stagnated (+0.3%, after +30.3%). At the same time, the volume of net energy called increased by 4.7%, after +4.5% last year.

As for the consumption of electrical energy, it has strengthened by 2.6% at the end of the first four months of 2022, after +5.3% a year ago and -2.4% at the end of April 2020.

The consolidation of the growth of this consumption follows, in particular, the increase in sales of “very high, high and medium voltage energy, excluding distributors” by 3.9% as well as the increase in sales of low voltage energy by 2.9% and those intended for distributors by 1.6%.

Compared to their levels before the crisis (end of April 2019), the indicators of the electric energy sector continue to strengthen, notably at the level of consumption, notes the DEPF, noting that the overall volume of electricity sales increased by 5.5%, after +2.8% at the end of April 2021.

As for the production of electrical energy, it has strengthened by 2.3%, after a decline of 1.2% to end April 2021.
