Fishing: Increase in landings of 20% at the end of July

The landings of marketed products of coastal and artisanal fishing have increased by 20% to 719,925 tons during the first seven months of the year 2022, according to the National Fisheries Office (ONP).

The value of these landings has exceeded 5.4 billion dirhams (MMDH), up 7% compared to the end of July 2021, says the ONP in its recent report on the statistics of coastal and artisanal fishing in Morocco. By species, landings of crustaceans and pelagic fish have increased by 28% to 4,359 t and 26% to 625,419 t respectively.

On the other hand, landings of shellfish, seaweed and cephalopods fell by 55%, 53% and 7%. By port, a total of 11,642 t of coastal and artisanal fishery products were landed in the Mediterranean port entries at the end of July 2022, a decrease of 9%.

In terms of value, these ports recorded a decline of 8% to 406.19 million dirhams (MDH). Conversely, landings at ports located on the Atlantic increased in weight by 20% to 708,283 T. In value, these ports show an increase of 8% to more than 5 million dirhams.
