After his release, Brahim Saadoun returns to Morocco and reunites with his family

Taher Saadoun, the father of the Moroccan student, expressed his gratitude to the Moroccan and Saudi authorities, who made great efforts for his release, saying: “Riyadh and Rabat made great efforts to save my son from the death penalty, and these efforts finally succeeded and we thank HM King Mohammed VI”.

He also added that his son will have a psychological follow-up because of all that he lived, suffered and endured in Ukraine, and that he will return to university after his psychological state improves.

It should be noted that the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday the success of the mediation of the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salmane, which was able to obtain the release of 10 prisoners held by pro-Russian forces in Ukraine.

Recall that the young Ibrahim Saadoun was arrested last April with the British Eden Aslin and Sean Penner, after fighting alongside Ukrainian forces in the city of Mariupol. He was sentenced to death by the separatist authorities in Donetsk, Ukraine.

Arriving in Morocco, the 21-year-old said: “I am happy to return home after having suffered very difficult times during the war” in an interview with AFP.
