A reliable source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Resident Abroad gave further information to the Moroccan press about the case of embezzlement of public funds at the Consulate General of Morocco in Barcelona
Several measures have been taken by the department of Nasser Bourita since the case broke in December 2019.
According to our source, an inspection commission was dispatched in January 2020 to the said consulate to investigate the alleged embezzlement in the passport department of the said Consulate. The report of the commission was sent to the General Treasury of the Kingdom, which also sent inspectors to the consulate in Barcelona. A request was subsequently sent to the Judicial Agency of Morocco to file a complaint with the investigating judges in charge of financial crimes.
The same source said that the investigation conducted by the National Brigade of Judicial Police (BNPJ) is still ongoing, stressing that three officials have been heard in this case.
It is, we are told, an official working at the headquarters of the Ministry in Rabat, after being recalled and two others who have been recruited in Barcelona.
