Tax measures: cafes and restaurants threaten to close

The owners of cafes and restaurants have asked the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, the organization of an urgent meeting, in order to discuss and debate the dysfunctions that the sector lives.

Similarly, those concerned have questioned the exact role of the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Services, since fiscal measures have been adopted, stipulating the increase, in an “exponential” way, of the amounts of taxes that they will have to pay, without their opinion having been sought on this subject.

This prompts the question of the usefulness of the existence of the above-mentioned chambers, according to them. Also, cafe owners and restaurateurs in the capital threaten to close store in protest against the tax decision taken by the mayor of Rabat, Asmaa Rhlalou. In the same vein, Noureddine El Harrak, president of the National Association of Owners of cafes and restaurants in Morocco, had previously announced that it would send correspondence to the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, as well as the Minister of Interior, Adelouafi Laftit, with the aim of organizing a joint meeting to discuss the tax decision imposed on the concerned.

For its part, the Democratic Organization of cafes, restaurants, hotels and tourist sites, affiliated to the Democratic Confederation of Labour (CDT), had also asked the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, to organize a meeting with all professionals, with the aim of finding fair and equitable solutions to the problems suffered by the sector.
