The city of Midelt, champion of apple growing with more than half of the national production and 90% of that of the region of Draa-Tafilalet, is preparing to celebrate its apples by hosting this week the National Exhibition of Apple (SAPOM 2022), after two years of suspension due to the pandemic of Covid-19.
Showcase exhibition of news and advances in the development of the sector of apple, this show, long awaited by growers in the region, provides, from 6 to 9 October, a program “new” and a plethora of economic, cultural, social and scientific activities.
Mobilize human and financial resources necessary for sustainable development of the apple tree, this is the objective set by the association of SAPOM which organizes this event, in partnership with the province of Midelt, under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests.
It is clear that the significant expansion of apple cultivation in mountain areas of the region, thanks to favorable climatic conditions (cold winter), land availability and especially the Green Morocco Plan, has made this show a leading event at the national level, knowing that this sector is the main source of income for a wide range of small and medium farmers.
For Mustapha Ennouhi, governor of the province, “this event is an opportunity to revitalize the local economy, while also being a space for the exchange of ideas and experiences between stakeholders and professionals in this sector and for the promotion of scientific research related to this agricultural sector and its development.
This exhibition allows, in addition, to highlight the tourism potential, cultural and heritage of this region, as well as other local products of the province, he stressed at a preparatory meeting of this edition.
Welcoming the organization of a new edition of the National Exhibition of the Apple, after a compulsory two-year halt because of the health crisis, the government stressed the important role of this sector in the economic development of the province of Midelt.
