Latifa Cherif, a member of parliament for the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), has proposed the closure of the Mohammed V stadium in Casablanca in order to put an end to football-related hooliganism.
In a written question to the Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, in the House of Representatives, the USFP MP said that the perimeter of the stadium is often the scene of acts of hooliganism in the context of meetings held there. She gave the example of the chaos that often marks the derby Wydad-Raja, highlighting the clashes between supporters of both sides.
Latifa Cherif said it would be more appropriate to close the Mohammed V stadium and build a new building in the vicinity of Casablanca, in addition to imposing more control measures, especially with regard to unaccompanied minors during the games.
As a reminder, violent clashes broke out between Wydad and Raja fans around the complex after the final whistle of the 133rd derby, which ended with the victory of the Red and White by two goals to one. The police intervened immediately to calm the situation and some arrests were made.
