Morocco-Nigeria: Signature of a memorandum of understanding on electricity

This step is part of the dynamics of strengthening ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and Nigeria and aims to consolidate cooperation ties within the framework of the common vision, which emerged through the visit of HM King Mohammed VI to Nigeria in 2016 and that of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari in Morocco in 2018.

On the occasion of this meeting, the two countries expressed their determination to move forward in strengthening their cooperation relations, including that between energy operators, in order to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples and contribute to the development and stability of the African continent.

During an official ceremony held at the headquarters of NERC in Abuja, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the President of ANRE, Abdellatif Bardach, and the President of NERC, Sanusi Garba.

In this context, Abdellatif Bardach said that this protocol will strengthen the already existing relations between the two regulators, marked by the visit of a large Nigerian delegation to the headquarters of ANRE in October 2021.

For his part, Sanusi Garba stressed that the signing of the memorandum reflects a strong bilateral relationship between ANRE and NERC, which will be further strengthened to better accompany the changes in the electricity sector, ensure its proper functioning and overcome the energy challenges of the African continent.
