Sudden collapse of a house in Casablanca 

A three-storey house collapsed on Monday evening in the Derb Chrif district in Hay Mohammadi, Casablanca. According to witnesses on site, no casualties were reported. The house was classified as a ruinous dwelling by the local authorities and evacuated of its inhabitants a few months ago. Only one family continued to live there, but was able to be evacuated from the premises a few moments before the collapse, alerted by vibrations announcing the collapse.

After the collapse, the elements of civil protection rushed to the scene for the usual operations.

According to the president of the district of Hay Mohammadi, Youssef Rakhiss, the house in question is the subject of a decision to evacuate and demolish since 2017, along with 112 other homes in the same neighborhood.

“The prefecture of Ain Sebaa-Hay Mohammadi has made available to the affected residents some 540 apartments for rehousing. A large majority of the families in question have actually benefited,” he assured the media present on site.
