Forest fires: 1,251 hectares ravaged since the start of the year

182 forest fires were reported nationwide from the start of the year to July 10, 2023, affecting a surface area of 1251 hectares of woodland. These are the findings of a recent report by the Agence nationale des eaux et forêts. “Approximately 54% of this area is mainly made up of secondary species and herbaceous formations”, we learn in this sense. The region with the largest burnt area was Tangier-Tetouan-Al-Hoceima, with 68 fires and a burnt area of 881 hectares (70% of the national total). This was followed by the Souss Massa region with 190 hectares (15% of the national total). In this context, the Agence Nationale des Eaux et Forêts is urging users of forest areas such as campers, beekeepers, stockbreeders and others to be vigilant and limit the use of fire as much as possible during the summer period. The aim is to avoid any action likely to start a fire, and to immediately report any fire sightings or suspicious behavior in forested areas to the relevant authorities. This is essential if we are to preserve our precious forest heritage and reinforce its vital socio-economic and environmental role.
