Life sentence for young man who killed his friend and injured his ex-girlfriend

Deceived by both his lover and his friend, this thirty-one-year-old ex-con pretended to forgive them for their treachery. In fact, he was planning to do just that.

“Yes, I intended to take revenge on her and him”, the young man candidly confessed before the three magistrates of the criminal division of the Casablanca Court of Appeal. This is a rare occurrence, since defendants, whatever the crimes for which they are being prosecuted, usually claim to be innocent. We even learn from the case file that he did not exonerate himself before the judicial police investigators, the public prosecutor’s office or the examining magistrate. In short, it seems that he fully assumes his responsibilities. When the president of the court reminded him of the charges brought against him, namely premeditated homicide and ambush, which cost his friend his life, and attempted homicide against his ex-lover, he remained unmoved.
The case dates back to the day he invited his twenty-six-year-old friend and his twenty-one-year-old
ex-girlfriend to his home. Around a table where glasses of red wine were exchanged and discussions on everything and anything took place, the accused asked their permission to go to the toilet. But in truth, he went into the kitchen to arm himself with a cutlass. He strides back to the bedroom where they’re getting drunk. He notices his friend and his ex kissing. He pounces on them like a wild beast on its prey and starts riddling them with blows. The girl manages to escape. She quickly opens the door and flees, calling for help. Alerted, the police arrive at the scene of the crime. All they found was the accused and the corpse of his friend, lying in a pool of blood. But what was his motive for committing the murder? He claims that the girl, whom he regrets not killing as well, had been his sweetheart since she was nineteen. Only, he added, she turned her back on him over a year ago, cheating on him with her boyfriend. He decided to get even with both of them. He gave himself some time to get his ex and his friend to trust him, and to make them believe that he didn’t want to lose their friendship. To do this, he occasionally invited them to his place to get drunk and high. On “D” day, he went through with the deed.
Verdict: Found guilty, the defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment.
