Under the slogan “Violence is condemned, let’s mobilize to report it everywhere”, the campaign will run until December 10. Its aim is to ensure a safe environment to protect women and girls from violence. Initiated in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA ) and with the support of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the campaign coincides with the organization of the UNiTE campaign (November 25 – December 10), a 16-day activism initiative launched by the UN to prevent violence against women and girls.
The aim of this national campaign is to promote a culture of rejection of violence, and to raise awareness among all sectors of society of the importance of protecting women against all forms of violence, wherever they may be. Speaking at the event, Aawatif Hayar, Minister for Solidarity, Social Integration and the Family, stressed the importance of the slogan chosen for this campaign, underlining the need to raise awareness of the imperative of reporting acts of violence against women and the fight against impunity.
She added that the number of care centers for women victims of violence had reached 105 throughout the Kingdom, and that partnership agreements had been signed with 57 listening and guidance centers for women victims of violence for 2023. For his part, UNFPA Assistant Representative and Program Coordinator Abdellah Yaakoub called for the adoption of a comprehensive approach to promote a culture of human rights and women’s protection, and for awareness of shared responsibility in promoting equality and combating violence, noting that UNFPA is ready to accompany and support Morocco’s efforts to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The launch of the campaign, which was attended by representatives of government departments, public institutions, civil society players and international organizations, was punctuated by the signing of partnership agreements between the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and the Family, Entraide Nationale and the listening and guidance centers for women victims of violence for the year 2023.
