Turkey Supports Morocco on the Sahara Issue

Following the broadcast of a controversial interview of the separatist Aminatou Haidar on a television channel, Turkey through its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, reaffirmed on Thursday, December 12 in Rabat, its “full support” for the integrity of Morocco.

“We fully support the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco,” the Turkish Foreign Minister said at a press briefing following his meeting with his counterpart Nasser Bourita.

According to Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, “there was a misunderstanding on a video broadcast by one of the Turkish television channels, which has been corrected, but the position of Turkey and our government is very clear, we fully support the integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco”.

“We do not support any separatist groups or agendas, and any problems should of course be resolved peacefully. This is our common position and we will continue to support not only the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, but also stability and security for this country which is very important for us, for the Muslim world and for this part of the world,” the Turkish Minister clarified.

A Turkish television channel recently broadcast an interview with the separatist Aminatou Haidar, who has always opposed Morocco’s territorial integrity, provoking considerable controversy.
