The Cervantes Theater in Tangiers on the Agenda of the Spanish Council of Ministers

The Spanish government, meeting this Tuesday in the Council of Ministers, approved an agreement for the irrevocable donation of the great Cervantes Theater in Tangiers to Morocco.

According to this agreement, the protocol between Spain and Morocco on the irrevocable donation of the Great Cervantes Theater in Tangiers will be submitted to both Houses of the Spanish Parliament for approval, according to a statement from the Spanish Executive.

The transfer of this building to Morocco follows an offer by the Moroccan government to restore and manage the theater in return for becoming the owner and a commitment on its part to preserve the Spanish stamp in the cultural programming of this institution, the same source said.

This transfer was materialized by a protocol which, in form and content, constitutes an international agreement.

The Spanish Government points out that the Great Cervantes Theater in Tangiers is one of the most important cultural buildings in the city, stressing that it is also a building of great architectural and cultural value which is in need of rehabilitation.
