The headquarters of the Arabic-language newspaper Assabah was the scene of an important and “decisive” meeting of directors of national daily newspapers on Friday in Casablanca.
This meeting led to the creation of a new association, called the “National Association of Media and Publishers”.
According to a reliable source, the crisis caused by the Covid-19 has caused undesirable consequences for the paper press. This came after a two-month shutdown of publication and distribution.
During this period of unexpected shutdown, and before the resumption of the activities of publishing companies, the sector suffered significant and heavy losses, “without the Moroccan Federation of Newspaper Publishers (FMEJ) being able to intervene wisely,” assured our source.
The creation of the new ANME, of which Abdelmounaïm Dilam was elected president, is therefore very welcome. It will from now on constitute an additional means of pressure for the defense of the sector, just as its action will ensure that the sector is saved from probable other crises.
This is particularly important given the limited reactions of the current authorities in the publishing and distribution world, which have been disappointing throughout the period when the printing and distribution of paper newspapers has been discontinued.
